  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (almonds or hazelnuts, optional)
  • 1/2 cup cherry jam or preserves

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing well.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract, then gradually mix in flour and chopped nuts until just combined.
  4. Shape the dough into disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  5. Roll out chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thick. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes, cutting out centers from half.
  6. Place cookies on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden around edges.
  7. Cool completely before spreading cherry jam on solid cookies and topping with cut-out hearts. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
