  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (for greasing)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Slice the russet potatoes into uniform 1/8-inch rounds using a mandoline or sharp knife.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over them and sprinkle half of the Gruyère cheese on top.
  5. Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil in the last 15 minutes for a golden crust.
  7. Allow it to rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
