Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 45 tbsp chilled water
  • 1 cup fruit filling (apple, cherry, cranberry-orange, etc.)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add chilled water until just combined. Form into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut tree shapes using a cookie cutter.
  4. Place filling on half of the tree cutouts. Top with another cutout and seal edges with a fork.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake pies on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 20-25 minutes until golden.
