  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Frosting: 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 tbsp milk or cream
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture on low speed until just combined.
  6. Spread dough evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.
  7. While cooling, prepare frosting by mixing powdered sugar, softened butter, milk/cream, and food coloring if desired.
  8. Once cooled completely, frost the bars and cut into squares.
